Taiwanese Ambassador comes to Tullamore

Taiwanese Ambassador visits Tullamore

Members of  Tullamore Chamber of Commerce met with the Taiwanese Ambassador while he was on a whistle-stop tour of County Offaly earlier today in a bid to promote cultural and business links between our two countries. Simon Tu, along with other representatives, gave a remarkable presentation on the synergies between our two countries and outlined several ways that Irish businesses in the Midlands can develop ties with Taiwan for both import and export.

As part of his presentation, Mr Tu outlined how Irish trade has grown over the last number of years as Irish businesses target the larger Asian markets, and how Taiwan is serving as a gateway country to East Asian countries such as South Korea, Singapore, Japan, China, and beyond. He also outlined how their competitive nature in the areas of technology and manufacturing allow them to compete with the power houses of the German and American manufacturers, delivering the same quality but often at a fraction of the cost. He sees the Agri-Foods sector, the Pharmaceutical Sector, the Tourism and the Technology sectors as ones in particular that could benefit from trade links between the two countries.

Key points also made include opportunities in the wake of Brexit that Ireland can take advantage of, especially given our status as the only native English speaking country left within the EU after Brexit, and other links to improve on exports to East Asia.

Further information on the visit will be available through the Tullamore Chamber of Commerce and also The Taipai Representative Office in Ireland available at www.roc-taiwan.org/ie/
